Steven J. Kahl D’91

Faculty Director, Center for Entrepreneurship; Clinical Professor of Business Administration

Steve Kahl teaches the core course Leading Organizations and an elective course called Leading Entrepreneurial Organizations. He is also the faculty director of Tuck's Center for Entrepreneurship and is actively involved with entrepreneurship activities on campus. Prior to Tuck, Steve was an Assistant Professor of Organizations and Strategy at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business from 2007–12. Prior to academia, he was a vice president in Global Investment Research at Goldman, Sachs & Co, a former research analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Inc., and consultant at Deloitte & Touche and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).

David M. Marchick

Gordon Phillips

Laurence F. Whittemore Professor of Business Administration; Faculty Director, Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital

Gordon Phillips is the faculty director of the Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital and the Laurence F. Whittemore Professor of Business Administration. He teaches the 2nd year course Venture Capital and Private Equity and specializes in private equity, mergers, and the impact of financial decisions on firms' strategic decisions. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and a visiting research professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He previously taught at the University of Southern California and the University of Maryland. He has been a visiting professor at Duke University, HEC Paris, Insead, MIT, and Southern Mediterranean University. He received his MA and Ph.D. from Harvard University and his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. His areas of research include corporate finance and how financial decisions impact firms' strategic decisions, and contracting in financial markets. His work in corporate finance includes studies of private equity issuance, capital structure, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, how leverage buyouts and other forms of high debt influence a firms' and rivals' investment decisions.

Recent research published in the Journal of Political Economy and the Review of Financial Studies has been on applying computational linguistics to firm financial statements to analyze merger synergies, dividends and product market competition. Research published in the Journal of Finance has been on real and financial booms and busts and mergers and acquisitions and how firms organize across multiple markets. He recently presented the keynote address on PIPEs (private investment in public equity) to an audience of executives and finance professionals. He has served as an associate editor at The Review of Financial Studies and The Journal of Corporate Finance.

Nick Russell D’00, T’10

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Private Investments

Nick Russell has twenty years of experience as an investor, advisor, strategist and occasional operator.  The entirety of his career has been focused on helping engineering-driven product and service companies across a range of sectors succeed and generate shareholder value.  He began his career as a strategy consultant focused on corporate venture formation and growth strategy, as well as complex operational improvement engagements. For the last fifteen years, Mr. Russell has focused on leading control buyout investments in middle and lower-middle market companies, and working closely with portfolio companies and their leaders to develop and execute growth and other improvement initiatives.  Mr. Russell joined Tuckerman Capital in 2010. He has been a Board Director and has led several Tuckerman investments. He is responsible for all facets of the firm’s efforts including business development and partnership origination, investment execution, portfolio management, investor facing activities, and internal firm operations.

Mr. Russell received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth.  He teaches an MBA course on private investments in small and middle market companies at the Tuck School and is a frequent speaker on small company buyout investing, particularly addressing the emerging ecosystem surrounding independent private equity sponsors.  

Morten Sorensen

Associate Professor

Professor Sørensen conducts research in the areas of entrepreneurial finance, venture capital, and private equity and focuses on understanding the behavior, performance, and economic effects of venture capital and private equity in individual transactions and in the broader economy. His studies have investigated the risks, returns, and illiquidity inherent in venture capital, private equity, and other alternative investments; the effects of private equity and venture capital investments on individual companies and for industries; and the role of management in venture capital and buyout deals. His research has been presented at numerous universities and conferences, has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, Bloomberg, CNBC, and BusinessWeek, and has been published in leading academic journals.

Jim brings to Tuck 35 years of experience in the equity capital markets including the past 16 years as a highly accomplished principal investor in private equity at Crosslink Capital. Jim’s investment focus areas at Crosslink have included enterprise software/SaaS, internet digital media and consumer services, analytics, advertising technologies, and financial technology. Jim has led Crosslink’s investments in four companies which achieved multi-billion market cap exits—Omniture (NASDAQ: OMTR, IPO 2006, acquired by Adobe 2009 for $1.8B), Ancestry.com (NASDAQ: ACOM, IPO 2009, acquired by Permira 2012 for $1.6B), Pandora (NYSE: P, IPO 2011, average market cap at fund exit $5.5B), and Coupa (NASDAQ: COUP, IPO 2016, current market cap $2.6B). Jim’s current board seats for Crosslink include Personal Capital, Chime, Reltio, Gain Credit, Zebit, and Devon Way. In addition, Jim is Crosslink’s board observer for SilkRoad and Zoosk.

Richard Green D’75

Dick is Managing Director of RLG Analytics LLC, a consulting practice specializing in strategy, planning, corporate governance, business analysis, due diligence and negotiations.

Dick has served on the Board of Directors of eleven organizations, six for-profit and five non-profit. Most recently, from 2003-2012, he was a Director of Jetboil, Inc., the worldwide market leader in single-burner cooking systems, and served as Chairman from 2007-2011. Dick led Jetboil’s negotiating team during acquisition of the company by Johnson Outdoors, Inc. in November, 2012, and is currently the post-acquisition shareholder representative.

From 1998-2008, Dick was a co-founder and Director of VoteHere, Inc., a developer of cryptographic systems for electronic and online voting. He served as Chairman of VoteHere from 1998-2001. From 1983-1993, Dick was co-founder, CEO and Chairman of Corporate Microsystems, Inc., a data communications software firm serving national retail chains.

Dick Green is a co-founder and managing director of Granite State Angels, a regional investment group based in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dick is a co-founder of the Grafton County Economic Development Council, and was President from 1999-2004. Dick is a co-founder of the Dartmouth Regional Technology Center business incubator. Dick has served as a member of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Assembly of Overseers since 1997.

Dick obtained his BA from Dartmouth College where he was awarded the John G. Kemeny Prize in Computing in 1976.

Mark Anderegg

Co-Founder, Newbury Franklin

Mark brings to Tuck 15 years of private equity experience, with a focus on micro cap investing. He is co-founder of Newbury Franklin, a holding company that acquires and builds recurring revenue businesses with an extremely long-term orientation.

Mark is also Chairman of Little Sprouts, a Massachusetts-based provider of early education centers, which he led the acquisition of in 2012 via a search fund. What started as a local business with 16 locations in the Boston area grew to become the largest private preschool company in New England during Mark’s 6-year tenure as CEO. Little Sprouts now operates three brands across four states.

Mark is an active investor and serves on multiple private company boards in the search fund ecosystem. He was previously Faculty Associate in the Kellogg Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative, where he continues to advise and mentor on the subject of Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition.

Earlier in his career, Mark was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs, first in New York and later in Chicago. He subsequently worked as a private equity investor with Chicago Growth Partners, a middle-market buyout fund.

Mark received a B.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Charles Ayres T’87

Chairman, Trilantic Capital Partners

Charlie Ayres is the chairman of Trilantic Capital Partners.  Prior to Trilantic Capital Partners he was the global head of Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking and a managing director of Lehman Brothers. He joined LBMB in 2003, and has over 20 years of private equity experience. Mr. Ayres was a founding partner of MidOcean Partners, a private equity investment firm formed in February 2003, and, prior to that, was head of DB Capital Partners North America (Deutsche Bank AG) and a member of the DB Americas Regional Executive Committee, where he was responsible for overseeing $1.2 billion of investments and managing the 25-member investment team. Prior to DB Capital, he was a managing partner at McCown De Leeuw & Co., Inc., a $1.2 billion private equity fund. From 1987 to 1991, he was a managing partner at HMA Investments, Inc., a private investment firm focused on middle-market management buyouts. He also worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions department at Lazard Freres & Co. and the Corporate Finance group at Kidder Peabody & Co. He is currently on the board of the Lennox Hill Neighborhood House and the Special Projects Committee of Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and is an active member of YPO, the Young Presidents' Organization, Gotham Chapter.


He obtained his BA in economics, magna cum laude, from Duke University and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business.

Melinda Barber T'09

Managing Director, Pilot House Ventures

Melinda Barber is Managing Director at Pilot House Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in investments in early stage companies. Prior to Pilot House Ventures, Mindy was Managing Director at Harvard Management Company where she was a member of the investment team focused primarily on private equity and venture capital. Before joining Harvard, Mindy worked at Raptor Capital Management, North Atlantic Capital and Lehman Brothers. She received a Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where she was a Tuck Scholar, and graduated magna cum laude from Colby College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Mindy, her husband, and their two daughters live in Boston, Massachusetts.

Peter J. Barris T'77

Managing General Partner, New Enterprise Associates

Peter Barris joined New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 1992 and has served as managing general partner since 1999. NEA is one of the largest global venture capital firms with $8.5B under management. Since joining NEA, Mr. Barris has led investments in over 20 information technology companies that have completed public offerings or successful mergers. These include such industry pioneering companies as Amisys, CareerBuilder, Geotel, Tripod, UUNET, and Vonage.

Prior to joining NEA, he was president and chief operating officer of Legent Corporation and senior vice president of the Systems Software Division of UCCEL Corporation. Both companies were ultimately acquired at valuations that were record breaking for their time. Earlier, Mr. Barris spent almost a decade at General Electric Company in a variety of management positions, including vice president and general manager at GE Information Services. He also serves on the Northwestern University Board of Trustees, Dartmouth College’s Tuck School Board of Overseers and the Executive Committee of the Board of the National Venture Capital Association. Mr. Barris was also a founding member of Venture Philanthropy Partners.

He obtained his BS from Northwestern University and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business.

Tom Blaisdell T'89

Founder & CEO, AlignPact

Tom Blaisdell T'89 is the founder and CEO of AlignPact, a consulting firm that helps individuals and organizations craft Permanent Capital strategies for “Values-Aligned Investing.” From 2016 to 2018 he served as Executive Director of Private Equity in the Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital (CPEVC) at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. For 17 years prior to that, Tom was a general partner at DCM Ventures, a Silicon Valley Venture Capital firm where he helped DCM’s portfolio companies create high-growth marketing strategies, structure successful strategic partnerships and build strong management teams. Tom has a particular focus on innovation in the financial technology arena and technology and services that empower entrepreneurs and small businesses. He led DCM Ventures' previous investments in PayCycle (acquired by Intuit), HireRight (IPO on NASDAQ; then acquired by USIS), Jaspersoft (acquired by Tibco), Caring.com (acquired by Bankrate), Vendavo (acquried by Francisco Partners) and Vindicia (acquired by Amdocs). Tom began his technology start-up career with a six-year stint at Intuit, joining the then-private company one month prior to the launch of Quicken for Windows 1.0. Upon earning his MBA at Tuck, Tom joined Bain & Co in their San Francisco office.

David G. Brown T’85

Brown Family Trust

David Brown is the managing partner of Oak Hill Venture Partners, and a vice president of Keystone, Inc. He leads Keystone's venture capital activities, including investments in 33 companies since 1998. Prior to joining Keystone in 1993, he worked at Salomon Brothers, where he was a vice president in the Corporate Finance Department.


Mr. Brown serves on the board of directors of StepNexus, eGain Communications, Intelligent Markets, MarketTools, Voyager Expanded Learning, and Validus. He also serves on the boards of Bowdoin College and the Yosemite National Institutes.

He obtained his BA from Bowdoin College and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business.

Susan J. Carter

Former President & CEO, Commonfund Capital, Inc.

Ms. Carter is an independent director of the BlackRock Equity/Liquidity Mutual Funds, the Financial Accounting Foundation and the Pacific Pension & Investment Institute. She also serves on the U.S. Advisory Board for Bridges Fund Management, the Practitioner Advisory Board of the Private Capital Research Institute and the Executive Advisory Board of the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business. She also cochairs the Advisory Board for a new educational organization, Girls Who Invest.

After 25 years with Commonfund Capital (CCI), Ms. Carter retired from her position as President & CEO at the end of 2014. CCI is a global private capital solutions provider and a subsidiary of Commonfund. CCI invests in funds, secondaries and co-investments in venture capital, private equity and natural resources strategies. For the year 2015, Ms. Carter was a Fellow in Stanford University's Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI).

Before joining CCI in 1989, Ms. Carter was with Morgan Stanley & Co. from 1985 to 1989. Prior to that, from 1978 to 1985, she was with GE Investments. She holds an A.B. degree in Economics and Business from Lafayette College and is a graduate of GE’s Financial Management Program (FMP). She also completed the Woman’s Director Development Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Ms. Carter lives with her husband Nick in Riverside, CT. They are the parents of a daughter living in Washington, D.C. and a son living in Los Angeles.

Collette K. Chilton T'86

Chief Investment Officer, Williams College

Collette Chilton joined Williams College in October 2006 and prior to that she was the chief investment officer for Lucent Technologies Inc. Ms. Chilton previously served as chief investment officer for the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board. She has also worked at the Massachusetts State Teachers and Employees Retirement Systems Trust, the First National Bank of Boston, and Citicorp Investment Bank.


She obtained her BS from the University of California, Berkeley and received her MBA from the Tuck School of Business.

Alicia M. Cooney T'76

Co-founder and Managing Director, Monument Group

Alicia Cooney is co-founder and managing director of the Monument Group, an independent registered broker-dealer providing alternative investment opportunities to institutional investors. Previously, Ms. Cooney was a consultant at Cambridge Associates Inc., an investment banker at Bear, Stearns & Co., and a research analyst at Bache, Halsey, Stuart & Shields.

She obtained her BA from Wellesley College and received her MBA from the Tuck School of Business.

Laureen R. Costa T'94

Portfolio Manager, J.P. Morgan Asset Management

Laureen Costa is a portfolio manager in the JPMorgan Asset Management Private Equity Group. The Private Equity Group is a team of 45 professionals that operate out of offices in New York, London, and Hong Kong. The team manages three broad private equity programs –venture capital, U.S. corporate finance and non-U.S. corporate finance – as well as programs dedicated to the Emerging Manager Market.

Ms. Costa has 15 years of experience investing in private equity. She manages a diverse portfolio of corporate finance partnerships, venture capital partnerships, direct investments and secondary transactions. Prior to joining JPMorgan Asset Management in 1997, she was a portfolio manager with AT&T Investment Management Corp., an investment management subsidiary of AT&T, where she held similar responsibilities. Prior to joining AT&T, Ms. Costa worked in commercial lending for CoreStates Bank, N.A. (now part of Wachovia Corporation). She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. Ms. Costa serves on numerous advisory boards including Alta Berkeley, Ampersand, Columbia Capital, Duke Street Capital, FdG Partners, Insight Venture Partners, Sofinnova Capital, SYNCOM, Vicente Growth Equity, and 21st Century Group.

Diane Daych is a managing partner and co-founder of Granite Growth. She has more than 30 years of investing, advisory and operant experience, with more than 25 years of experience in the health services industry.

Before founding Granite Growth, Diane led Apple Tree Partners’ healthcare services investing team. From 2010 to 2012, she was a managing director and co-head, Private Equity, of the Marwood Group. Previously, she was a partner and principal at CCP Equity Partners. Diane’s current investments include CleanSlate Outpatient Addiction Medicine, Three Oaks Hospice, and QualDerm Partners. She currently sits on the board of Directors of CleanSlate, QualDerm, Three Oaks Hospice, the National Venture Capital Association and is Vice Chair of The Healthcare Private Equity Association.

Peter L. Denious T'97

Peter Denious is an Investment Partner of FLAG Capital Management in Stamford, CT. FLAG is a private capital fund-of-funds founded in 1994 with assets of $4.3B and strategies in venture capital, private equity and real assets. For the last five years, Mr. Denious has overseen FLAG International Partners, a fund focused in Europe and Asia. He is also a member of the FLAG investment and management committees.

Prior to joining FLAG in 2001, Mr. Denious worked for J.H. Liam Donohue is the co-founder and managing director of .406 Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund investing in information technology and technology-enabled services. Prior to co-founding .406, Mr. Donohue was a founding partner at Arcadia Partners and a principal at Foster Management Company, where he built and in some cases led, several successful business service companies. Before attending Tuck, he opened the first office in Budapest, Hungary for Booz Allen Hamilton, and founded and ran an independent nonprofit organization that coordinated the Central European Environmental Education Seminar.

Tony is a General Partner and head of NEA's technology investing practice, which is typically two thirds of NEA's funds. Adam P. Godfrey T’92

Adam Godfrey co-founded Stella Point Capital in 2012. Previously, Mr. Godfrey spent nearly 19 years with Lindsay Goldberg and its predecessor, which he joined in 1992 when it had just five investment professionals. During his tenure, he played a significant role in the development of Lindsay Goldberg, which raised more than $10 billion in capital across three private equity funds. Mr. Godfrey sourced and managed numerous investments for the firm, serving on the boards of twelve portfolio companies including one company where he remains involved as a director. Bill Hart is an advisor to early-stage technology and financial services companies. As the founder and managing partner of Technology Partners, Mr. Hart led this Silicon Valley venture capital firm for 21 years. Since retiring from Technology Partners in 2001, he has continued to work with several early-stage companies and to serve on the board of Trimble Navigation. Mr. Hart also serves on the boards of the Napa Valley Opera House and various university advisory groups. He is a former member of the Tuck Board of Overseers. Mr. Hart owns and manages a small vineyard in the Napa Valley and was affiliated for many years with Duckhorn Vineyards.

Deb Kemper is a partner at Golden Seeds Ventures, focused on investing in early stage enterprise B2B and medtech companies. She formerly led the Boston Forum of Golden Seeds, a national angel investor group. Prior to joining Golden Seeds Ventures, she built a portfolio of over two dozen early stage investments via Libra Global Partners, LLC.
 
Previously, Deb was a consultant with McKinsey & Company where she served clients in the energy, utility, electronics, and healthcare sectors. Her functional experience spans manufacturing, product development, operations and strategy. She has provided leadership support to organizations in China, Peru and the United States.

Donald R. Kendall Jr. T'76

Don Kendall is the founding managing director and the chief executive officer of Kenmont, an investment management firm specializing in alternative investments and private equity. Previously, Mr. Kendall utilized his extensive background in the power and energy industries overseeing event driven, distressed, capital structure arbitrage and private equity investments in these sectors for Carlson Capital, L.P, while overseeing Kenmont’s private equity fund of funds. From 1993 to 1998, Mr. Kendall was president of Cogen Technologies Capital Company, L.P. In addition to his duties at Cogen, Mr. Kendall was the founding chairman and chief executive officer of Palmetto Partners, Ltd., a family office and investment management company. He has established significant private equity portfolios at four firms including building, managing and marketing a $1.50 billion asset focused private equity portfolio. He has also been involved in initial public offerings, project finance, leasing, restructurings and workouts, recapitalizations and merger and acquisition assignments and has completed in excess of $20 billion in financing transactions. Nancy Lotane T'92

Ms. Lotane joined Bain Capital, a leading global private investment firm, in 2007 and serves as Chief Human Resources Officer. In her role, Ms. Lotane leads a team of human resources professionals responsible for recruiting, performance management and leadership development, compensation, culture, and diversity and inclusion for the more than 950 employees working for Bain Capital globally.  In addition, Ms. Lotane serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Bain Capital Private Equity globally. 

Prior to joining Bain Capital, Ms. Lotane worked as Chief Marketing and Development Officer and Head of North American Operations for Mercer Management Consulting, now Oliver Wyman. In that role, Ms. Lotane was also responsible for Learning, Knowledge Management and intellectual capital development.

Prior to that, Ms. Lotane was a consulting partner at Mercer and Corporate Decisions, Inc., focused on retail and consumer products.  She also worked as a consultant at Braxton Associates earlier in her career.

Alice Ruth D’83

Chief Investment Officer, Dartmouth College Investment Office

Alice Ruth D’83 was named chief investment officer (CIO) of the Dartmouth College Investment Office (DCIO) on March 13, 2017, succeeding Pamela Peedin D’89, T’98 who spent more than six years as CIO. In her new role, Ruth will oversee Dartmouth’s investment office and management of the College’s $4.5 billion endowment. She will also manage additional college funds totaling approximately $1 billion.

Prior to joining DCIO, Ruth spent eight years as chief investment officer for Michael Bloomberg’s family office, known as Willett Advisors, in New York City. She also served in the same capacity for Bloomberg at Quadrangle Group. Before Quadrangle, she was CIO for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, where she led and shaped a $6 billion portfolio. And prior to Moore, she spent 12 years at Montgomery Securities as a senior managing director and co-director of equity research.

Tore Rynning-Nielsen T’85

Tore Rynning-Nielsen co-founded Herkules Private Equity Fund in 2003. Mr. Rynning-Nielsen is responsible partner for investments in European House of Beds, Hatteland Display and Odlo. Herkules buyout funds total $2.2 billion. He has more than 20 years of international corporate finance experience, including as a principal, an advisor and an investor. In 1999 he founded the private education company B+W Learning Systems AS, and grew that company through both acquisitions and organic growth in Norway and Sweden. He was president and CEO of the company until 2003. He has also held positions as managing director of Enskilda Securities' Norwegian operations and as senior vice president and treasurer of Holberg Industrier Inc. in Greenwich, Connecticut. From 1985 to 1988, Mr. Rynning-Nielsen worked at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in New York, responsible for origination of fixed income instruments for clients in Europe and Asia.

Warren (“Renny”) C. Smith Jr. T'83 (Chairman)

Renny Smith is the managing partner of Staley Capital Management, which he co-founded in 2008. Staley Capital’s primary focus is providing growth capital for business services companies. In 1990, Mr. Smith joined Thomas H. Lee Partners  and was one of the Partners responsible for investing Thomas H. Lee Equity Funds II, III and IV. Some of the investments he was responsible for include Finlay Fine Jewelry, Thermoscan, Rayovac and Eye Care Centers of America. In 1999 he co-founded TH Lee Putnam Ventures, a $1.1 billion growth equity fund. Mr. Smith has a long history of investing in retail, consumer product companies and marketing services and IT solutions for those markets. He is the Chairman of Parago, Inc. and serves on the Boards of 4R Systems and Aspen Marketing Services. Stephen J. Socolof T'87

Steve Socolof is a managing partner of New Venture Partners. This firm is the spin-off by Lucent Technologies of its New Ventures Group venture incubator for Bell Labs. New Venture Partners manages a portfolio of 27 companies, which were based on Bell Labs technology. Lucent continues as a limited partner along with new financial partners like Coller Capital. Mr. Socolof joined Lucent in 1996 with the charter to employ a venture-capital model as an alternative commercialization approach for bringing Bell Labs technology to market quickly. The New Ventures Group became one of the most successful, recognized corporate venture incubators, launching 34 new companies and producing a 35 percent IRR on invested capital by Lucent over its lifetime. Russell W. Steenberg T'83

Russ Steenberg is the global head of Private Equity Partners, having joined the Adviser in July 1999 as founder and head of Private Equity Partners. Prior to joining the Adviser, he was a co-founder and managing director of Fenway Partners, a middle-market buyout group with US $1.4 billion of capital. From 1983 until joining Fenway in 1995, Mr. Steenberg was employed by AT&T Investment Management Company, where he was co-head of the AT&T Pension Fund’s US $3.6 billion private equity investment portfolio. In that capacity, he participated in sourcing, structuring, executing, and monitoring the investments of the AT&T Master Pension Trust in non-publicly traded debt and equity securities, as well as in private equity partnerships. While at AT&T and Fenway Partners, Mr. Steenberg made over 100 private equity investments with 36 general partners, committing or investing an aggregate of over US $3.6 billion of capital (US$337 million to venture capital fund investments, US$2.5 billion to other private equity fund investments and US$795 million to direct investments). George Still joined Norwest Venture Partners in October 1989, and is a managing partner of several Norwest Venture Capital Partnerships. During his 25 years in the venture capital field, he has invested in 44 companies, of which 18 have gone public and 16 have been acquired. Mr. Still was the sole venture investor in PeopleSoft and spent over 10 years on the company's board of directors. PeopleSoft grew from a start-up to an S&P 500 company with revenues in excess of $2 billion until it was acquired by Oracle for over $10 billion. In addition, he was a co-founder of several companies, including PeopleMan (acquired by PeopleSoft), Verio (acquired by NTT) and Website Pros (WSPI). John S. Taylor Sr. T’79

Former Vice President of Research, National Venture Capital Association

John Taylor was Vice President of Research at National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) through 2015, which is based in Washington, DC. He joined NVCA in 1996 and built the NVCA’s research function from scratch by attracting the best commercial and non-profit groups and structuring durable and robust relationships. Accurate, complete, and accessible data provided the industry necessary credibility and visibility. It also enabled association members to access to best-of-breed databases. This has encouraged research and analysis by others and is providing insight into what creates great companies. In 2003, he co-founded the NVCA CFO Task Force, which focuses on regulation and emerging issues dealing with investment company financial reporting, private company reporting, and responsible industry transparency and disclosure. Today, members of this group have seats at the table of key national and international policy-making groups.

Mr. Taylor is frequently quoted by major newspapers and magazines on the subject of venture capital and has recently provided commentary on CNBC, WSJ, Bloomberg radio, NPR Morning Edition, The Jim Campbell Show, The Frank Peters Show, various podcasts, and regional newspapers. He is well known among industry leaders, academic leaders, national and local reporters, and senior policy making officials.

Mr. Taylor has served as a board member of both for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations. In 1998, he was awarded the Maryland Governors Citation for outstanding volunteer service for his work as chairman of Boys and Girls Homes of Maryland. He recently joined the Advisory Board of the Center for Private Equity and Entrepreneurship at the Amos Tuck School. In August 2010, he was appointed to the newly-established Nelson County (VA) Broadband Advisory Committee.

Stephen Vicinelli D’87

Former Managing Director, TIFF Investment Management

Most recently, Stephen Vicinelli served as Deputy Chief Investment Officer for TIFF Investment Management, a provider of investment solutions to the non-profit community. Stephen was a member of TIFF’s Management Committee and a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. He also spent 15 years leading TIFF’s private investment program raising 25 private funds with roughly $2.5 billion of capital on behalf of non-profit investors. Stephen served on the Advisory Boards of over 20 private investment managers.

Prior to joining TIFF, Stephen spent 10 years at Morgan Stanley, where he held positions in the firm’s mergers and acquisitions, technology corporate finance, and realty advisory practices. For nine of those years, he was based in London, where he had significant exposure to the global private equity community as an advisor, underwriter, and co-investor. Before joining Morgan Stanley, Stephen was employed by the investment banking division of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in the firm’s New York and Dallas offices. He serves as a member of the investment committee for The Hotchkiss School.
